Board Responsibilities to Graduate Class

Direction

The primary responsibility of the Board is to give direction to the graduate class. This handbook is the main tool we use to accomplish this task. While each class has wide latitude in setting the agenda for day sessions, determining the type of retreat, and carrying out many other responsibilities, the Board sets the overall direction of the program so that the focus and purpose of the program is maintained from year to year.

Oversight

Within the course of conducting the program, issues may arise regarding course content, spending limits, attendance problems, nature of the community project and other concerns. If the graduate class officers cannot resolve issues brought forth, they may bring their concerns before the Board. If the Board deems it appropriate, it may approach the class officers regarding these or other issues it believes should be brought to the class’ attention. In all cases, the Board has the final decision.

Support

One of the main reasons the Board was formed was to provide a foundation for the program so that each newly graduated class would have a nucleus from which to start, rather than recreating the entire process on their own. As stated earlier, this handbook is the basis of that support. A visible means of the Board’s support will be its attendance at the welcoming orientation at the beginning of the year and the graduation program at the end. Additionally, Board members will make every effort to attend day sessions when possible. The Board will maintain a list of previous speakers and programs as a source of ideas for day programs and serve as a resource to the graduate class for assistance when needed.

Financial Resource

The budget for the yearly program is the total tuition collected from the incoming class members. The Board Treasurer will pay all bills and handle all reimbursements for expenses incurred in the course of conducting the program. The Treasurer will also present the graduate class with a recommended budget for the welcoming orientation, retreat, day session lunches, graduation, nametags, awards, LNC shirts and any other approved expenditures. These budget recommendations will be based on those of past classes and will serve as a guideline to the graduate class.
